The Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) has submitted a representation to the Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, outlining key suggestions for the Union Budget 2026–27, aimed at strengthening India’s rice export ecosystem and enhancing the sector’s global competitiveness.
In its submission, the Federation highlighted the strategic importance of the rice sector in India’s agricultural exports, underlining its contribution to farmer incomes, rural livelihoods, employment generation, and foreign exchange earnings.
The representation emphasized the need for a stable and predictable policy environment to support rice exports, particularly in the context of evolving global trade dynamics and India’s role as a key supplier to several international markets.
IREF also flagged operational and cost-related challenges faced by exporters and stressed the importance of measures that improve ease of doing business and efficiency across the rice value chain, from procurement to logistics.
Dr. Prem Garg, National President, Indian Rice Exporters Federation , said that supportive budgetary measures for the rice sector would have a positive multiplier effect, benefiting farmers, millers, exporters, and allied industries across major rice-producing states. He added that continued engagement between the government and industry stakeholders would help ensure sustainable growth of the sector while aligning with the broader objective of boosting India’s agricultural exports.
